Michel Guyon was born in Nantes, and by the end of the 1960s had gained experience in theatrical design. He became passionate for opera, music, and painting which lead him to create theatre decorations, costumes, and posters alike. Following the study of theatrical decoration with Mr. Jean Baty, he discovered the drawings of Paul Dauce and Joel Dabin, which he incorporated into his decorations.

In the 1970s, he worked on lyrical spectacles and amassed numerous professional awards as set designer for the operas Le Nozze de Figaro, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, Carmen, and Faust. He also worked for the Jean Maris festival, the Francis Huster Company, “Les Treteaux de France” and many summer festivals. He now works for the Anger Opera House.

At the same time, he cultivates his other great passion: paintings on canvas. His talent with decoration is readily evident in his beautifully realized easel works – a mixture of beautiful color palettes and the strong use of glazes, attesting to Guyon’s adeptness as a painter.

Guyon is represented by over a dozen galleries worldwide and his paintings have been added to a number of European art museum collections in recent years.

Tregoning & Company is delighted to introduce the charming paintings of Michel Guyon to Northeastern Ohio with this group of recent works.
