TREGONING & COMPANY OFFERS RECENT PAINTINGS BY MATT DIBBLE
“Aspects of Modern Life” Series will Debut during April’s Art Experience Weekend at 78th Street Studios
Cleveland, OH – 23 March 2011
Working for two years, distinguished Cleveland artist MATT DIBBLE has created a body of compelling new
paintings that will receive their inaugural exhibition at Tregoning & Company’s North Gallery, opening on
Friday 15 April 2011 – part of the quarterly ART EXPERIENCE WEEKEND held Friday and Saturday throughout the
78th Street Studios, 1300 West 78th Street, Cleveland, OH.
“Matt Dibble continues to be a painter who startles and invigorates his viewers through new reflections on
his life and its challenges,” commented gallerist Bill Tregoning after reviewing the series with Dibble recently.
“I find Matt matured in these recent paintings, employing increasingly energized compositions and daring color.”
“My wish is to be in the real world,” said Dibble. “I have a natural curiosity to understand my place on earth
and a thirst for sincerity in all forms. This new series “Aspects of Modern Life” is a glimpse of what happens
when a very active inner life and the outer world come into contact.”
Artist, author and distinguished critic Douglas Max Utter said of these new works, “His brushy abstract gestures
rush into the paint like a gust of wind. Sometimes they lose themselves in explosions of color and texture, but
more often there is a solution to the chaos – a sense of a new creative order hanging like smoke over shattered
visions.”
Over twenty-five of Matt Dibbles paintings from “Aspects of Modern Life” will be on view at Tregoning & Company
through the end of May 2011. A reception for Dibble will be held Friday 15th April from 5-9pm.
Tregoning & Company celebrates its 26th Anniversary during April – one of Cleveland’s most admired
art galleries. Free parking to the South and North of the gallery is accessed from West 78th Street.
A Statement by the Artist
"My wish is to live in the real world. I have a natural curiosity about my place on earth and a thirst
for sincerity in all forms. "Aspects of Modern Life" is a glimpse into what happens when this very active
inner life and the outer world come in contact.
I tried to work on these new paintings with "feeling" in my whole body. I'm not quite as interested in
brushing the paint on, as pushing the paint around.
In this series, I'm trying to approach the work as a tradesman approaches his job, in a very ordinary way,
with a watchful attention and a certain confidence that comes from experience while at the same time searching
for something new.
How can I bring more sensitivity to the color? This is the question that would not leave me alone during
my painting sessions and at other moments. Coming back to this question often, it became very alive in me."
